The 146-kilometre pipeline network, stretching from Kenya near Chinchilla to Nandi just outside Dalby, will return water produced through the natural gas production process to landholders after treatment.

The first stage of the network, a 58-kilometre section of pipeline, will be completed over coming months, with first water to be delivered to landholders in the Nandi area in the second half of 2025.

Arrow Energy Community Manager Brydie Hedges said landholders who have joined Arrow’s Condamine Alluvium Substitution Scheme (CASS) will exchange their Condamine Alluvium water allocation for treated water.

“We will be returning the equivalent of 2,800 Olympic-sized swimming pools each year to farming families to use for crop irrigation once our network construction is complete,” Ms Hedges said.

“Water is considered liquid gold to farming families, and our scheme will mean a reliable supply of quality water to support their farming operations.

“The scheme is a win-win for farmers and the broader community, with the environment to benefit from the re-use of water produced during our operations.

Local landholder and CASS participant Stewart Hayllor described the scheme as a ‘fantastic idea’ to protect the Condamine Alluvium and bolster water security.

“Water security for us is vital. Just having access to water and knowing it’s there means we can grow something every year, even in dry conditions” Mr Hayllor said.

“The scheme will help with water security for us and the Condamine Alluvium because farmers in the scheme will stop pumping water from the alluvium.

“Over the next 15-20 years that means a colossal amount of water won’t get extracted because it’s being substituted with Arrow water.”
