Aerial surveys between Chinchilla and Cecil Plains

Before we begin a project, we understand the land we’re working on, including the slope and natural movement of the terrain and the flow of water over the surface. We use the information we gather to inform our predictive models and monitoring programs.

Upcoming survey

We are planning aerial surveys between Chinchilla and Cecil Plains in December (subject to weather).

You may see a small plane flying a grid formation at approximately 1000 metres. The plane will be in the air up to four hours a day.

The surveys will use light detection and ranging technology (LiDAR) to generate a three-dimensional map of the surface, showing the shape and characteristics of the land.

By comparing the new images to previous surveys, and ones we do in the future, we can identify and understand changes to the landscape over time. It’s a useful tool to help us better understand the naturally occurring changes and the potential impacts of our activities.

We share the information with the Queensland Government’s Office of Groundwater Impact Assessment, which contributes to a better understanding of the terrain and overland water flow in the region.
